Nyungwe National Park is indeed located in the western part of Rwanda and covers approximately 1,019 km2 of dense Afromontane forests, bamboo-covered slopes, grasslands and wetlands. Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda is a biodiversity hotspot, boasting a high number of plant, animal, and bird species, many of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift region. The park is home to one of the most diverse populations of indigenous species in Africa, including 14 primate species, 300 bird species, and over 1,000 plant species.
